Sunshine Division announces new Portland Police liaison

Officer Rashida Saunders

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) has assigned Officer Rashida Saunders to be Sunshine Division’s new police liaison. Officer Saunders, a 10-year veteran with PPB, will connect families and individuals in need with our services to expand Sunshine Division’s reach in the community. She will maintain her regular duties as a police officer while she takes on this role.

When Officer Saunders comes across families in need of the food relief services Sunshine Division provides, she will be able to connect them to our services firsthand to ensure that they quickly receive the support they need. Officer Saunders replaced Officer Matt Tobey, who retired from PPB last February after more than two decades of service. Tobey held the role of Sunshine Division’s police liaison for nearly eight years.

Before working for PPB, Officer Saunders worked as a residential counselor at St. Mary’s Boys Home in Beaverton, Ore. and as a juvenile detention officer in Seattle, Wash. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and her Masters Degree in Administration of Justice and Security. She currently serves as a mentor and committee chair for the Z-Man Scholarship Foundation, which provides financial assistance for high school students in the Portland area.
