Updated: Aug 21, 2023

Educational leader offers some tips

Kali Thorne Ladd, an esteemed educational leader from Portland’s African American community, is reaching out to families with children with tips for making the best outcomes possible for kids impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Her important message is based on research about the impact of trauma on children and how to make a positive experience from a negative one.

In a short youtube video, Ladd describes some positive steps you can take to connect with your kids during this public health crisis when schools are closed and social distancing requirements keep them apart.

As the executive director of KairosPDX, a public charter school serving the black community from northeast Portland, Ladd explains how parents can navigate this new reality. She says it’s so important to intervene with your kids and help them build resilience through positive experiences.
